Bedroom Measurement Checklist: Bed, Storage & Dressing Space

Start With the Bed Wall

Place the bed where it anchors the room without blocking doors, closet access, or the main walking path. For many bedrooms, a bed centered on the longest clear wall creates the easiest layout because it leaves both sides open for nightstands and lighting.

Use Nightstands to Balance Storage

Nightstands should sit close enough for daily use but not so tight that drawers hit the bed frame or wall. A two-drawer design works well when the room needs extra bedside storage without adding a large dresser.

Add a Vanity Without Blocking Traffic

A vanity is easiest to use when it sits near natural light or a clear wall outlet, with enough space to pull out the stool. In smaller rooms, keep the vanity on a secondary wall so the bed remains the visual anchor.

Place Mirrors for Light and Outfit Checks

A full-length mirror works best where the user can stand back comfortably. Avoid placing it where reflected glare hits the bed directly; instead, use it to brighten a corner or support a dressing zone near the closet.
