Bedroom Layout Examples: A Narrow Room & a Shared Dressing Zone

These two hypothetical planning examples show how furniture placement changes when the room's priority changes. They are not customer installations or dimension claims for GTU products. Complete the bedroom measuring checklist first, then apply the example that resembles your routine.

Example one: a narrow bedroom

Assume a room measures 120 inches across and the selected bed frame is 66 inches wide outside-to-outside. That leaves 54 inches across both sides, or 27 inches per side if centered. This is only the arithmetic before nightstands, baseboards, and other obstructions; it is not a recommended universal walkway width. A wider upholstered frame would reduce the remaining space.

Choose the next piece from the remaining space

In that example, compare compact bedside storage with the actual clear width beside the bed. If a large nightstand would occupy the route, test a smaller suitable piece or a different layout. Position a dresser only after marking its drawer opening and the path to the door. Do not add matching pieces solely because they belong to the same set.

Example two: a shared dressing zone

Consider a room where one person uses a vanity while another needs the closet. Begin by marking the route from bed to closet. Place the vanity so the seated stool and open drawer stay outside that route. Check the mirror from the standing position and from the seated vanity position; they may require different placements.

Compare two versions of the same plan

Version A can place the vanity near the window, provided the stool and curtains remain usable. Version B can place it on another wall with appropriate lighting if the window location crowds the closet route. Walk through both plans with the furniture footprints taped out. The better version is the one that supports both people's routines at the same time.

Translate the example to your products

Substitute the selected bed frame's outside dimensions and every storage piece's actual footprint. Confirm package contents before assuming two nightstands or a chest are included in a bedroom set. Keep the room's measurement record and revise the plan when changing a product size or configuration.
