Place the end table outside the recliner's entire moving area, then check reach and access. An upright-only measurement can miss the footrest, backward travel or a changing arm position. A smaller tabletop is not proof of compatibility with a recliner.

Make a four-position record

If you own the recliner, observe its movement only with the surrounding area clear and according to its instructions. Keep hands and objects away from the mechanism. If buying it, request extended dimensions and required clearances; an upright room photograph cannot supply them.
Compare complete pieces, not just top sizes
The brown T609-3 is listed as one end table made with wood and engineered wood, with a lower shelf. The silver T957-16 package contains two square end tables and lists glass, engineered wood and metal. These are different packages, not two interchangeable recliner accessories.

These are listing specifications, not results from testing either table with a recliner. The T957-16 listing does not establish a verified stored footprint or show the storage mechanism in the pictured views. Do not plan to move it beneath a recliner or its footrest.
Keep leftover width distinct from a walkway
Suppose, hypothetically, that a side zone is 30 inches wide after the recliner's required movement clearance has already been reserved. A 26-inch table leaves 4 inches in that zone; a 16.13-inch table leaves 13.87 inches. Neither remainder is an approved walking clearance. If the same zone must provide passage, assess the passage separately and change the arrangement when it does not work.
Check depth as well as width. A shorter side-to-side dimension does not prevent the front edge from projecting into the approach to the chair. Mark the widest outline including legs, rather than hiding the base under the chair in a floor plan.
Give lamps, controls and extra tables their own space
Check reach upright and in the normal resting position without leaning across the mechanism. Keep the recliner's controls accessible. A lamp or charger adds a cord path that must remain outside moving parts and walking routes; follow the relevant product instructions.
If the second table is relocated between uses, give it a defined parking position and use the instructed handling method. Do not rearrange furniture in the chair's moving zone while operating the recliner. A flexible table arrangement should not depend on remembering to remove an obstruction before every use.
